Freelancing and Labor in the Digital Economy

This project is focused on gig-work or freelancing practices as we seek to better understand how such work fits in the career and work plans among freelance workers. Our guiding research question is: What is the role of gig work and freelancing in individuals’ labor/work/career strategy? This project includes a longitudinal, panel-based study to address the long-term trajectories of freelancers pursuing work on digital platforms.  The principal investigators for the study are Dr. Steve Sawyer, of Syracuse University School of Information Studies, and Dr. Michael Dunn, of Skidmore College.
